Breakfast in Sao Paulo – my favorites

Breakfast in Sao Paulo isn’t just a meal; it’s an experience. The city, known for its bustling lifestyle and cultural diversity, serves up some of the most enticing breakfast menus that are as diverse and vibrant as the city itself.

Whether you’re a die-hard foodie or a traveler seeking to taste the local cuisine, the breakfast in São Paulo won’t disappoint. From the artisanal fare at Casaria to the iconic boteco experience at Bella Paulista, the avant-garde Botanikafe, and the homely My Baker, São Paulo’s breakfast scene has something for everyone.

Casaria: Unique Breakfast in São Paulo

Tucked away in the classic neighborhood of Jardins, Casaria offers a Sao Paulo breakfast experience that’s unique and wholesome. It’s hard to resist the scent of their in-house baked bread, bagels, and croissants, perfect for a relaxed breakfast or brunch.

The egg and bacon bagel, a crowd favorite, beautifully combines familiar flavors in a delightful breakfast ensemble. With an open space to sit outdoors, this place offers a piece of countryside tranquillity in Sao Paulo. Even though I’m recommending it for breakfast, is also a great working spot on weekdays (they have lunch executive menu for BRL$68).

Open from 7 am, no reservations are needed, but do anticipate a small wait during the weekend rush.

Bella Paulista: The ultimate Boteco Experience

Embodying the spirit of Sao Paulo’s boteco culture, Bella Paulista is a testament to the city’s vibrant, round-the-clock life. This iconic bakery serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, and everything in between. If you’re eager to try traditional Brazilian salgados such as pastel, pão de queijo, or coxinha, and sweets of every kind, there’s no better place.

Is one of best places in town for you to try “Pão com requeijão na chapa”. It is a local invention (a truly Sao Paulo breakfast original dish) made with two slices filled with Catupiry, kind of a Brazilian cream cheese and finished in a hot grill to form a delicious cheesy crust and an amazing soft filling. Bella Paulista has one of the best in town – it is NOT easy to find a really good one.

Also, don’t limit yourself for breakfast. It is open 24h, so it is always a great option for late night and afterparty snacks.

Botanikafe: brunch all day

Nestled in Jardins or Pinheiros, Botanikafe serves up a breakfast in Sao Paulo experience that extends all day. Among antique furniture and verdant plants, you can savor avocado toasts, breakfast bowls, and Brazilian coffee. The wait during the busy weekend hours is definitely worth the mouthwatering menu and peaceful environment.

Even though brunch is the headliner of Botanikafe, it is also a great lunch option and the cocktails are also amazing. In weekdays afternoons, it is also a good option for work.

my baker: a chic boteco at itaim for breakfast in sao paulo

In the heart of Itaim, My Baker offers a cozy blend of a traditional breakfast in Sao Paulo spot and a tranquil workspace. With a menu featuring everything from classic French dishes to local favorites, this bakery is an excellent place to kick start your day in São Paulo, or even hold a quick business meeting.

They have amazing options on eggs, classic dishes like Cocque Monsieur and Madamme, and all kinds of locally baked goods. Along with Bella Paulista, it has the best Pão com Requeijão na Chapa in tall (its name on their menu is “Gotozo” wich means super good in kind of a baby voice).

Immerse yourself in the delightful fusion of culinary traditions, warm ambiance, and the bustling culture of São Paulo at these breakfast havens. Starting your day with a breakfast in Sao Paulo is more than just a meal – it’s your introduction to the city’s lively spirit and gastronomic wonders. Bon Appétit!
